Neeskens Kebano's first half penalty ensured Fulham's pre-season got off to a winning start in Poland.

A first-half Neeskens Kebano penalty was enough to ensure Fulham got their pre-season off to a winning start in Poland, claiming a 1-0 victory over Piast Gliwice.

George Williams and Floyd Ayité came closest to scoring with the best chances coming midway through the second-half.

Fulham named a youthful side for their first pre-season game and named in the starting line-up was new signing Marcelo Djaló and Steven Sessegnon who recently signed his first professional contract with the Club.

Michael Madl partnered Djaló at the centre of the Whites defence and captained the side, only Kebano remained in the starting line-up from our last game of the previous season.

Kebano was looking lively early on and 13-minutes into the game he bamboozled the opposition defence and looked to put a cross in to George Williams however the Piast goalkeeper fended away his effort.

Three minutes later it was Kebano who was causing problems again, Jerome Opoku played in a nice ball to the feet of the wide-man but his powerful shot was pushed away for a corner.

Just after the half-hour mark, Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson played an inch perfect through ball to Kebano who cut back in and delivered a cross which was met by a jumping Thorsteinsson, his effort was parried away and Williams failed to get a solid contact on the rebound which was saved.

Piast Gliwice were proving hard to break down with a well-organised defence and their best chance of the first-half came moments later when Matt O’Riley raised his boot to give away a free-kick on the edge of the box, it was taken by Gerard Badia but his effort failed to clear the wall.

Patryk Dziczek went off after clashing with Williams but the Welshman came out fine, and from the resulting play he broke forward into the box and was brought down giving Fulham a penalty.

Kebano slotted the ball in, putting it in the opposing corner to where the goalkeeper dived, giving Fulham a 1-0 lead.

Djaló almost doubled that advantage five minutes later when he ran to the front-post following a corner but his shot was saved.

Fulham made seven changes at the half-time break with David Button, Denis Odoi, Ragnar Sigurdsson, Ryan Fredericks, Kevin McDonald, Sone Aluko and Ayité replacing Marek Rodak, Opoku, Madl, Sessegnon, O’Riley, Thorsteinsson and Kebano.

Our Polish opposition looked to capitalise on Fulham’s changes and Badia found some space in the box from a through ball but he couldn’t get his shot on target as it drifted wide.

With 20-minutes to go Lasse Vigen Christensen burst forward and played the ball to de la Torre who found Williams with his cross but the shot was parried away, the ball then found its way back into the box but the Piast goalkeeper denied Ayité’s header.

Three minutes later de la Torre linked up with Ayité but the Togolese international failed to burry the chance and his effort was saved.

Following a break in play, Thorsteinsson returned to the fold, replacing the busy Williams who covered a lot of ground playing as the central striker.

Fulham faced a late onslaught of set pieces but successfully kept the opposition at bay with Button commanding his box well before the referee blew on the full-time whistle.
