A rampant first half display earned Fulham Under-18s an impressive 3-0 win at Southampton’s Staplewood Campus on Saturday.

A rampant first half display earned Fulham Under-18s an impressive 3-0 win at Southampton’s Staplewood Campus on Saturday.

A Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson penalty added to earlier goals from Cameron Thompson and Chris Kelly to secure a first win in four outings.

Thompson went close to breaking the deadlock 10 minutes in only to see his effort from the edge of the box saved by Adam Parkes, and the Saints goalkeeper was called into action again soon after when he tipped over Thorsteinsson’s free-kick.

Jayden Harris then fired over from 20 yards, before embarking on a fine solo run down the left which culminated in him cutting back to Thompson who turned and fired low into the far corner.

10 minutes later Thorsteinsson patiently observed a packed penalty area before picking out Kelly to his right, and the midfielder showed some neat footwork to get beyond his marker and slide his shot into the back of the net from a tight angle.

Thorsteinsson then made sure of the points shortly before the break with a powerful penalty after Thompson was brought down. Parkes guessed the right way but the Icelander’s spot-kick was too precise for him to reach.

Southampton grew into the game after the restart and called Taye Ashby-Hammond into a good save on the hour mark, although Thorsteinsson almost made it four moments later when his strike from distance hit the post.

Late efforts from substitutes Michael Elstone and Atli Andrason almost added some additional gloss to the scoreline, but Steve Wigley will no doubt settle for the 3-0 win on his return to his former club.
